FlipKey’s VP of Marketing, Eric Horndahl, answers today’s Vacation Rental 101 question: What are the top tips for a better experience for my guests?

Matt: Hi everyone, Matt here from FlipKey alongside Eric Horndahl, Vice President of Marketing, and we are here with today’s vacation rental 101 question of the day. Eric today’s question is about a better guest experience. I’m an owner, people have been leaving me positive to lukewarm reviews and I want your advice on how to improve my guest experience so everyone can leave and give me five bubbles when they rate me when they get home. How can I do better?

Eric: One thing you can do is making sure you’re providing the amenities that a traveler will expect. I’ve rented out a lot of vacation homes over the years and I always appreciate when there are paper towels, linens, toilet paper, cleaning supplies so I don’t have to go out to the grocery store and buy that stuff on my own. The other thing is to make sure you’re providing a special touch. If it is a couple that’s traveling maybe you throw in a bottle of champagne. Just a nice touch that people can remember to highlight their experience. Remember these people are going on vacation and they are looking for an out of the ordinary experience.

You can also provide local recommendations on great restaurants, great activities and attractions too. You own a home in this destination so you have a lot of local knowledge that you want to be able to make that people remember the whole experience. Providing that information can really help them a long way.
